Theater Experience
The musical play "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" showed similarities and differences from public speaking in terms of presenting verbally. The play itself and actors gave some good strategies that I can apply to the public speaking. I have seen different plays before, but after learning some of public speaking techniques, I could see it objectively.
First, I want to take a look at the way the play was presented. It was presented in an auditorium where many people freely sit and see it. It is played to entertain people, but it could be classified as informative because the play itself may have a message to tell the audience. Different kinds of technologies and tools which were available were used. For example, the actors used hands-off microphones, and those were controlled by production crews. An actor can concentrate on his/her actions without worrying about technologies and room conditions while sometimes a public speaker has to worry about those issues besides his/her presentation. Set constructions were simple and big, but easy to recognize.
Second, I want to take a look at the speaking and performance techniques actors and actresses used. Even though the actors used microphones, their original voices were loud enough and clear. Their actions were done largely, even each step they made, with an appropriate speed. The audience could see what actors were doing on the stage from different angles of a large auditorium.
