Experiments on animals have been carried out for more than 300 years, and the numbers of animals used for these experiments are increasing every year. However, many doctors and scientists say “We don’t need experiments on animals.” They say we cannot apply the data of animals to human beings. In fact, in 1997, 52 people died of side effects of a certain medicine. The medicine was sold in Europe after doing experiments on various kinds of animals. These experiments led many animals and also human to die.
This problem is caused for two reasons. Firstly, because of the thought of makers. There are many makers which don’t carry out alternatives. They think they can trust the data of experiments on animals than alternatives. Alternatives are the kind of experiments which doesn’t use animals, but use plants, artificial skin, and computers. And makers’ thought is a big mistake. We shouldn’t trust the data of experiments on animals. To think about the difference of nature between animals and human beings, it is natural that we shouldn’t apply the data of animals to human beings. In fact, there are medicines which are useful for human beings but harmful for animals. By contrast, as for alternatives, we can get more reliable data than experiments on animals. And what’s more, every kind of alternatives is carried out easily in a low cost. And secondly, this problem is caused because of peoples’ attitude. Many people don’t think much about the experiments on animals. So it is considered that they accept it. So makers won’t stop carrying out experiments on animals.
