    The Necessity of Active English Education
    In The Daily Yomiuri, eight reasons which make it difficult for Japanese to learn English are offered. It strikes me that Japanese people struggle with English because of the conventional passive education. In my opinion, if the passive education is arranged to active education effectively, Japanese people will never struggle with English. Then, how do we arrange the English education in Japan?
    First of all, as the author's second reason, many Japanese believe "that there are only two socio-cultural entities – Japan and 'The World,'" and treat English as the lingua franca of gaikoku. I do not think this is completely bad idea. Indeed, it may be dangerous to think that the rest of the world is lumped together as English available countries, but nowadays, we cannot get away from the fact that English has the widespread power. English is very helpful, for instance, when you have international communication including speakers whose native languages are not English. Additionally, if you can read English, much more information is accessible since almost all internet sites and dissertations around the world are written in English. Therefore, it is good to have the feeling that our native language is not English, so we have to learn English, recognizing English plays an important role as the linga franca of gaikoku.
    To be sure, as the author says, there are some negative reasons that English is not necessary in Japanese society. For example,
