Scuba diving is a safe sport as long as you follow the rules and instructions. However, it can be very dangerous or sometimes fatal, just as many sports more or less involve risks of injury, sickness or death in the worst case. One of the risks which scuba divers should bear in mind is decompression sickness, also know as the bends. The symptoms of this sickness as described by some leading scuba diving organizations are not a complete list in part because of confusion over symptoms. In fact, some people do not realize they have had the bends in less severe cases. If a diver is diagnosed with the bends, the only cure is to enter a hyperbaric chamber with the air pressure which matches the pressure at depth.
